Below are some examples of the challenges our clients were faced with, and how they ultimately were able to persevere and come out on top.

Not So Lonely At The Top

The Challenge

They say "it's lonely at the top" for a reason. And in the middle of 2021, Joseph was one of the loneliest CEOs. He was trying to turn his financial services company around. Top executive were pushing back. Some told him his strategic direction was wrong. Others told him he was too soft and not demanding enough from his staff. Many of his staff members were resisting a return to the office. The sales numbers were not great. Pressure closed in from the top. And then, his family (whom he treasures above everything else) had a variety of health issues. It was the most difficult time of his life.

The Solution

This is where the value of coaching shows up. In our 1-to-1 sessions, we explored and closely examined the "life beliefs" Joseph held. The long-held and nagging feeling that he was never truly appreciated for his hard work and successes. We worked on the issues for months and gradually, a clearer picture emerged. Joseph had succeeded in his life by forging ahead in spite of obstacles. They served only to make him work harder, but he always succeeded. He accepted that the appreciation he sought should come from within. And guess what? The staff turned around. The numbers turned around. And 2022 is turning into what will likely be a record year.

Hair on Fire

The Challenge

Sometimes in business, doesn’t it seem like your hair is on fire? One of our members recently had a full blown wildfire. Their crucial supplier for three upcoming events called at noon one day to say they would be filing for bankruptcy that afternoon at 4:30 p.m. A 17-year personal and business relationship was disappearing with no obvious backup plan. Pulse rates were rising. A sense of panic was setting in. In these situations, it can be so difficult to take what would seem to be obvious steps to an outsider. But you are in the middle of it and cannot see the solutions.

The Solution

Fortunately, our 1-to-1 session was about to begin. So we processed the issues and future events as calmly as possible. Later, we gathered our fellow Vistage team members. With their decades of experience in dealing with unsettling situations, they helped put out the fire in the hair of our member. Our group developed a 7-day action plan, a 30-day action plan and a 6-month action plan. The grateful member gave great feedback and took notes. And as soon as the meeting ended, the member took immediate action. Long story short: the member went from crisis to doubling the size of the company and will likely 3x the company revenue in 2022.
